Tonight's is all about...

Lisa della Casa and R.Strauss' Arabella.  A role that fitted her silvery soprano perfectly, we're fortunate to have a number of recordings of this great soprano in what must be her seminal role.

My choice, even over the two glorious stereo recordings she starred in for Decca (Solti) and Deutsche Grammophon (Keilberth) is for her earlier mono recording of scenes from Strauss operas coupled with the Four Last Songs.  To me it captures her in all her effortless glory, the evenness over her entire range is something to admire.

So here we have two of the duets, from Acts One (with Zdenka) and Two (with Mandryka).  I have to say that the final 3 minutes of the second track happens to be one of the most gorgeous love duets ever written  Perfect for a wintry Sunday Night's listening, especially as I work away on a couple of very exciting commissions.  Have a great week.
