Sunday's Dream of Sheba

This glorious early Perth spring weather intoxicates me almost as much as a Technicolor Sword & Sandal Epic.

Fortunately I have the perfect soundtrack to go with these ever-warming days of endless blue skies tinged orange in the late afternoon from the control-burn fires in the hills.

Without the Hayfever, please.

Ever heard of Belkis, Queen of Sheba by Respighi?  Didn't think so.  While it's not one of the composers more popular works it deserves much more frequent listening.  It's gorgeous and sentimental in the same vein as Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, Khatchaturian and Ravel.

Not only this, Belkis also points towards pioneering early Movie Soundtrack music (think Korngold).

If these two movements from the accompanying and equally neglected Suite don't convince you of Belkis' forgotten allure...well...
