...on the occasion of the great composer's brithday is, in my humble opinion, one of his greatest works. It's the relatively early Pelleas und Melisande, his Opus No.5, completed in February, 1903. It's Late Romanticism at it's unabashed, overripe best.
My personal favourite recording has always been the famous Karajan of course, but I'm always up to a musical challenge recording-wise. And so as a tribute the the great Arnold Schoenberg on his birthday please listen to the stunning Sinopoli recording below in it's entirety, a reward in itself really.
