...is the extraordinary scene from the opera Oedipe by George Enescu - where Oedipe meets the Sphinx and successfully answers her riddles. Enescu gives the scene a rather bone-chilling treatment mostly due to his music for the Sphinx, as you can here from the recording below, from the classic recording with Jose Van Dam as Oedipe and Marjana Lipovsek as the Sphinx. Today would have been George Enescu's 134th birthday.
