Appreciating Anne Evans

One of the most memorable portrayals of Wagner's Brunnhilde in recent years at Bayreuth has to be that of Dame Anne Evans, recorded for posterity in the Harry Kupfer production in the early 90's.

Clad in black leather she embodies Wagner's heroine with such strength, yet combines it with immense sensitivity, thus giving us one of the more 'human' Brunnhilde's on disc or screen.  She is also a formidable actress and one of the most vital components of Kupfer's post-apocalyptic vision of Wagner's legendary world.  Enjoy the Immolation Scene below as a fitting tribute to Dame Anne on the occasion of her birthday.
