Essential Saturday listening...

...given today is Nicolai Gedda's 90th birthday is this absolute treasure of a recording of Carmen featuring Gedda and Maria Callas.  Gedda recorded the role twice in relatively quick succession, once with Victoria de los Angeles and again with Maria Callas.  Both are highly memorable portrayals as are all of Gedda's studio recordings.

So here as a tribute are two of Don Jose's most memorable scenes - the Flower Song and Final Scene from the Callas recording, remastered in remarkable sound.
