Today's Earworm...
... is Giulietta Simionato singing O Don Fatale from Verdi's gorgeously dark Don Carlo. Simionato has always been a favourite mezzo of mine ever since I first heard her way back in my very early days of opera listening and features prominently in my collection of LP's and CD's.
Her rich mezzo soprano if perfect for the sad but fiery figure of Eboli and below is TV footage of Simionato singing Eboli's famous aria, a favourite with mezzos and indeed sopranos worldwide. Perfectly fitting birthday tribute, Giulietta Simionato (12 May 1910 – 5 May 2010).
