Astrid Varnay
I couldn't let a year pass without honouring Astrid Varnay for her birthday. She remains to this day my favourite Brunnhilde, unrivalled on disc in my opinion. I've written more extensive tributes to Varnay before, today is merely a small gesture to recognise a great, towering talent.
