Andrea Chenier

The 28th March marks the premiere of one of my favourite Italian operas, Giordano's Andrea Chenier.  My first complete recording was the one with Franco Corelli and Antonietta Stella, in it's original EMI/Angel pressing, I bought it second hand when I was around 14, it's still a favourite although for me it can never displace the Del Monaco/Tebaldi as my number one choice.

Corelli however is a suave Chenier his voice and looks perfect for the sensitive but revolutionary poet.  Here he is in the Act 1 Improvviso, a fine example of the richness of Giordano's score sung by one of the greatest exponents of the role.
