Tosca, Callas, Zeffirelli - 50 years on film today

   

Fifty years ago today on British TV screened Act 2 of what is probably the most famous staging of Puccini's Tosca.  Its was a dream cast directed by the young Franco Zeffirelli consisting of Maria Callas, Renato Cioni and Tito Gobbi.  Filmed live from Covent Garden, we are so fortunate that this wonderful film survives to show the art of some the greatest names in opera.  Televised as a 'Golden Hour' you can the see entire act in the clip above, enjoy.
