Image of the Day

Leon Bakst was a great inspiration for me in my creative formative years and still is in many ways.  His bold use of colour and pattern were an essential part of the Ballet Russes allure.  I've seen his costumes up close and in great detail, each a work of art in themselves.

While he is remembered mostly for his costume work the image above is his set design for R.Strauss' Salome. More of a ballet designer than for opera, Bakst delved into the artform on occasion, his design for Salome herself particularly iconic.
