Happy Birthday Jose Carreras

I know I'm a day late, but last night I was watching him in Turandot, which arrived yesterday so was too busy to post (good enough excuse I think).

Of the big three, I have always preferred Jose Carreras more than the other two.  In his peak he had that gloriously golden, youthful tone that was perfect for young virile heroes, being easy on the eye might also have had something to do with it too.

I was in my teens in his heyday and eagerly awaited anything he sang in.  I think my first recording of his was either Karajan's Tosca or Maazel's Turandot, both of which I picked up around the same time.  He was, Renata Tebaldi aside, my first musical crush.

Happy birthday for yesterday Jose Carreras, may there be many more.
