WASO: Dvorak's New World

Last night I took the opportunity to hear the West Australian Symphony Orchestra perform Dvorak's Symphony No 9 From the New World in a program together with Mendelssohn's The Hebrides and clarinet works by Weber and Debussy, conducted by Otto Tausk.

Michael Collins proved himself a very capable soloist in Carl Maria von Weber's Clarinet Concerto No 1, and returned to the stage after the interval to perform Debussy's rather lovely Rhapsodie for Clarinet and Orchestra.

Of course, the popularity of Dvorak's most famous work is completely justified and made for a thrilling final program choice.  

Included is a Bonus Track at the end of the concert, a trend which seems to have gained some popularity over the orchestras last couple of seasons and is a great idea.  I won't spoil the surprise ;-)

There is another performance tonight, online ticket sales have unfortunately closed but if you are lucky enough to get hold of a ticket I can strongly recommend this as an excellent concert going experience.
