Silent Salome

Last night I came across this remarkable short film of Salome from 1910.  While it doesn't stick too closely to Oscar Wilde's imagining of the Tetrarch's Court, it is a brilliant example of early film, notably for the hand painted colour.

Directed by Ugo Falena and starring Vittoria Lepanto as Salome, the decor and costuming is luxurious and the open halls and exteriors are filled with many extras.

At under ten minutes, with an exotic soundtrack, it's definitely worth a view.
