2012 Archibald Prize Winner: The Histrionic Wayfarer by Tim Storrier

Congratulations to Tim Storrier who today won the Archibald Prize, undoubtedly the most famous competition on the Australian arts calender.  I have long been an admirer of Storrier, his impeccably detailed landscapes have provided me with inspiration for years, and will continue to do so well into the future.

An incredibly detailed homage to the work of Hieronymus Bosch, the main thrust of the piece being that the faceless man it is a self-portrait, his image subtly appears on the piece of newspaper being caught by the wind.

This is the second time the arist has represented himself as a faceless man, Moon Boy (self-portrait as a young man) having been his contribution to last year's competition.

Hats off to Mr Storrier, not only for the painting and delicious title but for thanking his canine friend featured in the painting in his acceptance speech, who also accompanied the Artist to the award ceremony, it is always important to acknowledge one's fur-friends, they definitely provide much inspiration.
